FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a science nerd (…I read medical journals for fun), and I love solving puzzles. But this is good news for my clients! I love helping people “peel the onion” and figure out what is going on inside their body to cause debilitating symptoms, illness and fatigue. What truly is the root cause?

I wasn’t always a science nerd. In my case, necessity was the “mother of invention”. My three kids were chronically sick with asthma, allergies, eczema, ADHD, sinusitis, ear infections digestive distress and even depression. Visiting a slew of specialists who were only treating their symptoms rather than root causes was leaving my kids worse off than before.

After 10 years of sleepless nights tending to sick kids, I was determined to find the answers. My son’s MRSA infection (after rounds of albuterol and steroids) was a turning point.  I wanted to know why my son’s lungs were enflamed and restricting his breathing. The answer seemed to elude the specialists, but an emerging branch of science called Functional Medicine had answers.

I pursued health coach training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and studied clinical applications at the School of Applied Functional Medicine.

Changing my kids’ diets and supplementing where tests revealed nutrient deficiencies cured their ailments. In fact, scientists who study the Human Genome estimate that 85% of our experience of disease is due mostly to  environmental factors.  Our genes may be a loaded gun, but nutrition and lifestyle factors affect the expression of our genes.
